When eight small towns in Monmouth County banded together to form the Freehold regional district in 1954, they needed only one high school building to serve the 1,316 students from Howell, Marlboro, Manalapan, Freehold Township, Freehold Borough, Colts Neck, Farmingdale and Englishtown.
