Flatanger is also home to one of the worlds hardest route climbs.

From here, the route passes through a rural area and climbs the Phillips Ridge.

The route climbs steadily through birch forest and the tree line before arriving at the refuge.

An alternate route climbs the southwest face, from a base camp inside the Sanctuary.

The current standard route on the mountain climbs the west ridge of the main summit.

The normal route climbs north from the eastern end of the loch until easier ground is reached.

The route then climbed the mountains again in the direction of Albola.

The route climbs to Well Place for a magnificent section of estate road.

From here the route climbs steeply to 340 ft at the 11.5 mile stage.

During this section the route climbs through the Stopselzieher, a natural drainage cave.
