An activist told Reuters that three army defectors had been killed after they abandoned military units which fired live ammunition at a demonstration of 1,500-2,000 people.
Twenty were injured and at least four were arrested, activists told media.
At the Washington demonstrations, some activists did not tell the police ahead of time about their actions.
