His film Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (2008) is a documentary based on the titular writer and his "Gonzo" style of journalism.

The resulting story, and the manic, first-person subjectivity that characterized it, were the beginnings of the Gonzo style.

The story then picks up on an airplane, where Thompson's trip turns dark and miserably comedic in famous Gonzo style.

Some writers like Cristian Valencia, Alberto Salcedo Ramos and Jorge Enrique Botero, have written literary journalism, close to Gonzo style.

Accompanying the eccentric and colorful writing of Hunter Thompson, illustrations by British artist Ralph Steadman offer visual representations of the Gonzo style.
