The new first year pupils of 1975/6 were the first intake under the comprehensive system.

Usually every year six pupil has at least one role.

The school was opened to year 7 pupils on 9 September 1999.

The school has since expanded to accommodate first to sixth year pupils.

The school has enjoyed a wide range of operatic and dramatic productions, usually carried out by the 6th year pupils.

The school year pupils are in is not taken into consideration.

In 2001 teachers were finding it difficult to find a place for a record number of year 12 pupils to go in January 2002.

Last year pupils from 38 countries graduated from the school.

One-in-five schools also said the amount of history taught to first year pupils had been cut this year compared with 2010.
