Why did it seem more natural for Lincoln to use the word freedom in this context than liberty?
When Americans use the word "freedom," they really mean "opportunity."
It set one wondering about the preposition with which the word "freedom" is usually joined.
The word "freedom" especially seems to have hardened around the edges in the last few years.
And now, we will never stop saying this word: freedom!
We do not understand what the word "freedom" means anymore.
