The upper surface of the male is rich yellow, with the wing bases not darkened.
The forewings are pale brown with black veins and a blue spot at the wing base.
In some individuals the wing base is very dark.
It has small yellow patches at the wing bases.
The other two are found in the middle part and at the wing base.
There is a small, round, dark brown mark present approximately two thirds of the way from the wing base to the apex.
The ground color is dark charcoal gray, with a large white triangle extending from the wing base to slightly less than halfway out.
Other gold spots occur on the thorax, the wing bases, and the eyes.
There are two small, silver spots near the wing base.
Female are dark brown, often with blue wing bases.
