When Washington won his first election, he took about 18 percent of the white vote.
The two differences I noted were share of white vote falling to 72 percent.
"I won 40 percent of the white vote in the election," he said.
This can be compared with the 43-55% share of white votes overall.
This split in the white vote was based on economic class lines.
And again this year he took a clear majority of the white vote.
Black candidates, though, still earned one fifth of the white vote.
Giuliani will win the white vote, no matter who the candidate is.
"He has to hold Brown to less than 26 or 28 percent of the white vote and that will be very hard to do."
However, he failed to win enough white votes to qualify.
