At present the company produces, and must tip, about 20 million tonnes of waste each year.

The proposed facility would handle 30,000 tonnes of waste a year.

The new unit will process up to 220,000 tonnes of mixed municipal waste per year.

At that time over 200,000 tonnes of waste still remained on the streets.

About 400 tonnes of solid waste are released from city every year.

Since then, 47,000 tonnes of waste are known to have been imported.

The plant is estimated to generate 300 tonnes of waste each year.

Around 428 million tonnes of waste were being generated annually.

It can handle more than 6,500 tonnes of waste per day and is expected to be used for 25 years.

But the bottom line is that we shall have 50 million tonnes of waste to deal with in the year 2000.
