Fraser made his studies at the University of Edinburgh and took his Ph.D. in 1862.
In 1897 he took his Ph.D. at Harvard.

After some time travelling around the state, he enrolled at the University of Kansas and took his Ph.D. in 1960.
He then went on to take his Ph.D. in Neurobiology at the University of Calgary.
