"Students tend to leave and go to schools that are very similar," he said.
But those students tend to come from the state's stronger schools.
Black students tend more often to study education and the humanities, where far less research money is available.
The younger students tend to depend on their parents for support in school.
Students tend to be confused by the way the subject is taught.
There are indeed many explanations for why students tend to drop out of school.
"Medical students tend to want to do just straight studying because there's this strong interest in being a great student," she said.
