So she and 10 other black students decided to take action.
"These students have decided to turn their lives around," she said.
When money ran out on one project, the students decided to complete the work themselves.
About 60 students came to the first meeting and most decided to try the sport.
By the 1990's, the students had decided to clean up.
It wasn't long before the students decided they wanted to give a concert.
So students can decide their major after thinking through many experiences.
"The real test will be what students actually decide to do on May 1," she said.
