In the 1800s and early 1900s, commercial fishermen, recreational fishermen, riverside residents and some fisheries scientists (e.g. Anderson, Stead, Langtry) distinctly recognised two species of cod in the southern Murray-Darling basin, Murray cod and trout cod or "blue nose cod".

In the 19th and early 20th centuries, when trout cod were widely recognised as a separate species by commercial fishermen, recreational fishermen, riverside residents and fisheries scientists, they were generally known as bluenose cod or simply bluenose, particularly in Victoria.

Several towns, including Wayne, Lodi, and Oakland, had issued flood warnings by evening, advising all riverside residents to evacuate.

Edith Seltenheim, 83, a riverside resident of Oakland since 1955, said she was frustrated by the tease of intermittent drizzle and then downpour.

But tourism essentially went into hibernation during the winter, until 1992, when the chamber of commerce came up with "Christmas on the Pecos," a celebration highlighted by cruises up the Pecos River on pontoon boats while viewing the Christmas lights of riverside residents.

More recent epidemiological studies suggest that around 49 to 55 cancer deaths among riverside residents can be associated to radiation exposure.

In Harmony Township, situated 55 miles northwest of Trenton, most riverside residents were covered by flood insurance, but they still hope that supplementary aid from the federal government, which could include direct grants and low-interest loans, will help them get through temporary shortfalls and prepare for the future.

As it continued to rain in the South, riverside residents in Chomporn, Suratthani, Nakornsrithammarat, Trang, and Satul have been warned of possible mudslides and flash floods in the next few days.

Yet the airport's extension is being planned against the advice of the riverside residents and of the elected representatives on both sides of the border, who are already against maintaining the current level of traffic.
