The nearest railway is at Labytnangi on the opposite side of the river Ob.

It was founded in 1893 as the future site of the Trans-Siberian railway bridge crossing the great Siberian river Ob.

It is located in the center of birch and pine forest on the shore of the Ob Sea, a man-made reservoir on the river Ob.

In the 14th century the Novgorodians explored the Kara Sea and the West-Siberian river Ob (1364).

In 1499 Muscovites and Novgorodians skied to West Siberia, up to the river Ob, and subdued some local tribes.

Yermak then directed his forces down the river Ob, conquering several small forts.

Finally, in August 1598 Küçüm Khan was defeated at the Battle of Urmin near the river Ob.

But no other bird exerts quite the appeal of the annual visitor from the river Ob.
