In 1935 he was given command of the 29th Pursuit Squadron.
He was soon given command of the 17th Pursuit Squadron.
All three pursuit squadrons began to run short on fuel and broke off their patrols at the same time.
The unit shared the base with the 31st Pursuit Squadron at the time.
It consisted of the 39th, 40th and 41st Pursuit Squadrons.
In 1932 he was re-assigned to the 19th Pursuit Squadron.
He received a commission as a second lieutenant and served as a pilot in a pursuit squadron.
In 1923, the unit was re-designated the 94th Pursuit Squadron.
