John J. Reilly, MD, is acting chief of the pulmonary division at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

His father is the acting director of the pulmonary division at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York.

He taught at Georgetown and headed the pulmonary division at its University Hospital before moving to San Diego in 1968.

Lim directs the chronic cough clinic and asthma clinic in the pulmonary division of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Dr. Gottesman, 39, is on the staff of the pulmonary critical-care division of the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, N.Y.

"It does pose a risk, to other patients, to health personnel," said Dr. Viswanath Vasudevan, chief of the pulmonary division at the hospital.

Dr. David J. Prezant, a professor of medicine in the pulmonary division at his alma mater, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and since 1985 a doctor for the Fire Department, prefers a stethoscope.

Dr. Robert Mellins, head of the pediatric pulmonary division at Columbia-Presbyterian, said that as H.M.O.'s steamrollered into New York in the last year, the department's income dropped 25 percent.

Her father is the chief of the pulmonary division at the St. Michael's Medical Center and Asthma Institute of New Jersey in Montclair.
