The 18 present-day settlements in the Ambergau, all within the borough of Bockenem, are:
There are at least 274 of these islands, of which 17 have present-day permanent settlements.
The present-day settlement was established after a trading post first established in 1927 at Iggiajaaq, a few kilometres south-west, was finally closed in 1950.
