Late yesterday the 8 3/4 percent Treasury bonds due in 2017 were offered at 102 7/32, down 29/32, to yield 8.54 percent.

But the low prices were not long-lasting, and the 7 1/2 percent Treasury bond traded as high as 91 6/32 around midday.

By late in the day, the 8 3/4 percent Treasury bonds due in 2017 were offered at 99 29/32, up 10/32, to yield 9.05 percent.

The 8 3/4 percent Treasury bond must drop to about 97 3/8 to yield 9 percent.

The new 8 3/4 percent Treasury bonds due in 2017 were offered late yesterday at 96 21/ 32, down 2 points, to yield about 9.08 percent.
