A new viaduct has been built alongside the station as part of the Snowhill development to carry the tram lines into the city centre.
Trains from the south and west gained access by a new elevated viaduct.
In 1865 the wooden structure was itself replaced by a new viaduct further south, improving the alignment of the railway once more.

But there is no record of any advance protest or opposition to the new viaduct; apparently residents were happy enough to have free passage underneath.
