Most of the coalition partners already have contacts with minority companies.

Drexel is interested in mergers and acquisitions of the small minority companies.

"The picture being presented is that there are hundreds of minority companies running around the site not producing any work," he said.

Then businesses will be reluctant to work with minority companies because they will fear future litigation.

After a match is made, the system generates an e-mail notification to each of the matched minority companies.

"Remember, what might seem a small order for us is a very large order for a minority company," he said.

He added, "I know of minority companies that are doing real well," like a moving and storage company and a new black bank.

The acquisition was a rare example of a minority company buying a white-owned business.

Both sides say they favor policies to spur the development of minority companies.

That makes for a lot more competition - especially since minority companies still get only a fraction of the business of big corporations.
