I would like that kids in high school could read something I'm writing and understand it.

"So our little kids are reading 200 to 300 books a year."

The problem is that we don't trust kids to read for themselves.

"There is something radically wrong with the public school system if our kids can't read."

I am all for anything that gets kids to read more.

"Society has an interest in seeing that these kids can read and have some basic job skills," he said.

All she wants to know is whether the kids can read, make change and tell time.

If kids aren't reading, the blame should go to the parents.
