A company that began offering gambling cruises from Manhattan three months ago has ceased operating its overnight trips, saying not enough people were interested in the longer cruises.
The 12-mile limit led a Brooklyn company, Bay Casino, to suspend its gambling cruises from Sheepshead Bay on Oct. 31.
Sheepshead Bay was a possibility, until the locals got skittish after the furor over gambling cruises.
But just a week later, the Las Vegas Casino Line began operating gambling cruises.
Another company already operates overnight gambling cruises from Manhattan during the summer months.
Her preference, however, is the slots, for which she boards the gambling cruise ship twice a month, each time with $500 for what she calls "my therapy."
Mr. LeFevre said that allowing gambling cruises would violate the spirit of the state constitution, which limits gambling to Atlantic City.
"People can say, 'I'd like to take that nice gambling cruise on a riverboat.' "
Another company, Bay Casino, ran gambling cruises from Sheepshead Bay last year before halting in November in a dispute over the 12-mile limit.
One company already operates overnight gambling cruises from Manhattan, but only during the summer months.
