Meagher returned from Bull Run to form the new Irish Brigade.
He formed a fixed unit, the 1st Brigade de Marche Limousine, and mobile "flying" units with varying effectiveness.
They formed the Brigade of Gurkhas and were stationed in Malaya.
At the end of 1941 it was brigaded together with the 15th and 42nd Battalions to form the 29th Brigade.
Together with the 21st, 22nd and 24th Battalions, it formed the 6th Brigade under the command of Colonel Richard Linton.
In 2010 it was merged with the Immediate Reaction Cell to form the Light Brigade.
Along with the 2/6th, 2/7th and 2/8th Battalions it formed the 17th Brigade, attached to the 6th Division.
Along with the 14th, 15th and 16th Battalions which were recruited from New South Wales, it formed the 4th Brigade.
Completely recruited from Queensland, along with 10th, 11th and 12th Battalions, the 9th Battalion formed the 3rd Brigade, of the 1st Division.
It was merged with the 7th Brigade to form the Light Brigade in 2010.
