"I tend to go in the opposite direction of the fabric mills," he said.

The fabric mills are there, which is my passion.

Outlet stores first appeared in New England in the 1920's, when fabric mills attached shops to their manufacturing plants.

"I hear all these nightmare stories at the fabric mills about designers not paying and going out of business," he said.

Various executives and representatives from British and European fabric mills are to visit the store today through Friday to help customers make selections.
