The clan system has been one of the major forces dividing Somalia but, Somalis here argue, is the only remaining social institution of any strength.

Somalia should be united in the interest of the world, moreover Britain should unite Somalis, please do not divide or split Somalia.

Few political analysts say they believe that the fundamentalists have enough support yet to challenge the power of the traditional clan leaders, who have divided Somalia into small fiefs.
