While other clubs have developed a more blue-collar clientele, the Gold Club has worked to attract celebrities from the worlds of sports and entertainment, hoping that lesser-known dance enthusiasts would follow.

"In New York, we attract modern dance enthusiasts, but in New Jersey we attract those who haven't ever seen it before," Mr. Gwirtzman said.

The San Diego described her as a "swing dance enthusiast."

With six distinctly different companies taking the stage, this is a good week to be a dance enthusiast.

"We're a group of dance enthusiasts that came from other forms of folk dance," she said.
