The society and the Museum of Modern Art are offering lectures and a symposium in conjunction with an exhibition of contemporary Japanese textiles, which will be at the museum from Nov. 12 through Jan. 26.

Its displays have included contemporary textiles, and these were complemented by weaving classes.

Those who don't understand Spanish will occasionally be frustrated by text-heavy exhibits, but the beautifully displayed preColumbian pottery, colonial paintings and contemporary textiles and masks need no words to be enjoyed.

Enhanced by occasional swatches of contemporary African textiles, this splendid gift is on view through Feb. 28.

Today at noon, "Art Talk: Fashion From Native Thought," a discussion about the impact of contemporary textile and fashion design on American Indian life and ceremony.

Antique and contemporary textiles from 110 dealers will be on display at a show and sale from Wednesday through May 14.

"Vietnam: Journeys of Body, Mind and Spirit," an exhibition of more than 400 contemporary textiles, masks, ceramics, toys, sculptures and bamboo and paper objects, will run from Saturday through Jan. 4, 2004.

But it also produces a Kirk Brummel line of contemporary textiles made of synthetic fibers - some laser-cut, like Gramercy Square, shown hanging near a window ($147 a yard, to the trade).

It is one of the largest textile collections in Japan which covers from the ancient to the contemporary textiles from around the world.
