In April 2010, the school board chose to add 25% funding for water polo and boys lacrosse at the same time they cut five teacher positions.

The school sponsors many athletic teams, including boys and girls track, cross-country, cheerleading, soccer, tennis, basketball, baseball, softball, football, field hockey, wrestling, golf, and boys lacrosse.

They are known for their strong programs in both indoor and outdoor track, cross country, soccer, both girls and boys, boys lacrosse and nordic skiing and also golf.

The girls soccer, girls lacrosse, girls softball, boys baseball, boys lacrosse, and boys track teams all won their respective district titles.

The football, baseball, boys lacrosse, girls basketball, and various other teams have eliminated red from their uniforms.

Teams that have not won a state championship that are known for their strong performances include boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, and volleyball.

In recent years, the girls softball team has won 9 county titles and the track, girls soccer and boys lacrosse teams have won Long Island titles.

In boys lacrosse, Division has produced 13 All-Americans, including Maryland's all-time leading goal scorer Bob Boniello.

In boys lacrosse, Franklin Regional were WPIAL runner ups in 2010.
