MacArthur shaded green with faintly bluish spots.

Elytra are dark blue- green, with six large yellow or bluish spots and two smaller spots on the shoulders.

There is a chain of bluish or green postdiscal spots.

Faintly bluish spots may develop at the site of a louse bite and persist for several days.

Plumed basilisks are bright green with small bluish spots along the dorsal ridge.

The submarginal area may contain a row of red spots and the marginal area having bluish spots.

The thorax has a band or two of bluish spots anteriorly and posteriorly.

Below the eye is an iridescent bluish spot clearly visible if illuminated (the source of their other common name - bluespot goby).

Its dorsum is olive, brown or gray, with white or bluish spots.

It is the largest of the four subspecies and is blackish with bluish spots.
