Republicans said their bill would save 35 million families about $700 a year in taxes.

In total, Murphy's bill has saved taxpayers over $17 billion so far.
But the budget office said the bill would save only $305 million from 1994 through 1998, just 5 percent of the Administration's $6 billion estimate.
