Construction started in 1409 and continued for 150 years, with seven different architects working on the building.

It seems that the architects in this period mostly worked on their own.
From 1923 to 1925, the architects were also working on a new expansion, but this never took place.
Then the architect works with the local playground committee for about nine months to get the project off the ground.
"When designers and architects work on their own homes they're a lot like the rest of us."
That charge would include plans drawn up by the architect working on the building.
"Architects work all the time, and they don't make any money," she recalled being told.
The architect and builders worked within a limited budget of £600,000.
