On 21 January 1823, aged 47, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Portugal.

On 24 July 2009 he was also appointed Nuncio in Luxembourg.

On 22 February 2011 he was appointed Nuncio to Greece.

On 23 June 2012 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to European Community.

He was then appointed Nuncio to Greece in 2005.
