Joshua left the project and the two remaining members decided to change the name to The Washington Projects.

"Our artists and board members voted unanimously last night to take the show," said Jock Reynolds, the director of the Washington Project.

Unlike the Corcoran, the Washington Project is unwilling to step back because of political intimidation.
In 2009, a tug of war was sponsored by the Washington Project for the Arts.
