Eligibility to teach is very similar to Qualified Teacher Status in England and Wales, with near-identical requirements.
It provides various routes leading to Qualified Teacher Status.
Teachers training in Wales do not have to pass the tests, even though the rest of the requirements for Qualified Teacher Status are identical.
Previously this was not the case, although school teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) can teach in further education colleges.
These must prove they have reached each of the Training and Development Agency for Schools' 33 Standards required to achieve Qualified Teacher Status.
The BEd is not the only way of gaining Qualified Teacher Status or gaining a teaching qualification, other routes are as follows:
Having achieved Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), teachers are expected to continue to meet the standards required for that qualification.
