TESTING the theory that if you build them, they will come, two new performing arts sites have opened on Long Island: the Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts and the Dix Hills Performing Arts Center.

Betsyann Faiella's "Can I Be Frank," a cabaret tribute to Frank Sinatra at 9 p.m., followed by hors d'oeuvres and Champagne, is at the Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts on Main Street.

His opportunity came last year when his friend Ken Washington turned an old movie house in Smithtown into the Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts.

On Friday, the latest incarnation of the Platters - the last member of the original 1950's group departed 30 years ago - reprises its pioneering rock 'n' roll at 8 p.m. at the Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts on Main Street.
