Smith, asked if he approved of the deadline change, replied: "General managers always like more time," but his may be growing short.

"We are always in the thick of it," replied Smith.

"I could help out if you needed me," Smith replied.

Smith replied, "Would I have a chance to play for you again?"

Smith replied that he had already done the latter, and refused to surrender.

"We're just having a conference to discuss the whole matter," replied Smith.

Smith only scowled, and would not reply to this question or to any others.

Smith replied as if he were speaking with his head on the desk.
