On October 4, 2007, Senator Craig announced he will not seek re-election, but would remain in office until the end of his term.
Senator Craig called it a "wet noodle across the wrist of the President."
His hyperbole doesn't represent what Senator Craig is trying to accomplish.
"You have serious management problems that must be addressed," Senator Craig wrote in the May 23 letter.
Senator Craig later described the session as "a bruising hearing," saying in a statement that he was "frustrated."
In the parting bustle, Senator Craig emerged from the chamber with a look of considerable satisfaction.
"It's to our advantage to make sure that this is a fair, nonpartisan process," said Senator Craig.
"Senator Craig definitely feels this issue is best left up to the states."
Senator Craig's victory was a particular setback for Democrats, who had hoped to persuade many residents to split their tickets.
"That would probably be a sticking point, if they would expect more representation," Senator Craig said.
