Officials for the committee said the two aides might join the group led by Professor Lewis, but that their itinerary was also unclear.

"Culturally speaking, it turned me around," Professor Lewis later wrote, making him "wonder for the first time about the phenomenon of being an American."

Professor Lewis says such "urban constellations," of which he has mapped out 23 throughout the nation, are essential for the survival of the population.

The center is a model of the learning discovery centers that Professor Lewis is seeking to build throughout the nation.

"But people weren't buying safety," Professor Lewis recalled on Wednesday.

"Neither strategy makes beer which is identical to normal beer," Professor Lewis added.

Men might be advised to follow the personal example of Professor Lewis, who has been married to his wife, Yuri, for 49 years.

And Professor Lewis said any loss of party power could not be blamed solely on a change in local rules.

Professor Lewis declined to provide details about the visit because he said members of the delegation wanted first to brief the United States government.

Professor Lewis, an economist in the Roosevelt Administration, was 87 years old.
