Initially, the foundation focused on the performing arts, with local groups such as the Princeton Ballet being given opportunities to dance for audiences from Long Island to West Virginia.

The Princeton Ballet, a small professional company that grew out of the regional ballet movement that has spread across the country since the 1950's, made its New York debut over the weekend.

Dance events will include the Princeton Ballet (June 21) and Don Redlich Dance Company (July 31).

Three plays will be presented by the Levin Theater Company and dance performances by the Princeton Ballet and Don Redlich Company.

The Princeton Ballet is a company of 14 well-trained dancers with elegantly pulled-up bodies but not, on the evidence of a single viewing, a great deal of individual presence.

American Repertory Ballet, once known as Princeton Ballet, has paid few visits to New York.

Mr. Satinoff's plotless playful and neo-classic "Short Symphony," to Aaron Copland's score of the same name, was originally done by the Princeton Ballet.

"I worked with the Princeton Ballet, but I realized that dancing professionally in the West is a 9-to-5 job," he said.

Its neighbors will be the Crossroads Theatre Company, the George Street Playhouse and the Princeton Ballet, all resident companies of the New Brunswick Cultural Center.

He also appeared with the Eliot Feld Ballet and the Princeton Ballet and as guest artist with companies in the United States and Israel.
