A Pittsburgh lawyer who has been representing the miners, Thomas Crawford of Crawford & Weiss, did not return calls seeking comment.

His newest project is The Price of Justice,book about two Pittsburgh lawyers and their decade and a half struggle against the most powerful coal baron in American history.

The museum was created by Robert T. Messner, a retired Pittsburgh lawyer, with the support of local foundations.

The committee is led by Jack McGinley, a Pittsburgh lawyer.

It consisted of four members of the State Legislature, two Democrats and two Republicans, overseen by an outside chairman, a respected Pittsburgh lawyer.

Last year we paid four hundred bucks an hour for Pittsburgh lawyers.

"I think we've brought a somewhat different perspective to this fight," said Joseph A. Katarincic, a Pittsburgh lawyer coordinating Koppers's legal battle.

"The settlement is totally inadequate," said Michael P. Malakoff, a Pittsburgh lawyer who has been trying both to overturn the settlement and to reduce lawyers' fees.

"He kept bringing up women's issues," said Ms. McGrail, the Pittsburgh lawyer, who is a Democrat and the mother of three.
