A 1992 storm destroyed most of the club's structures on Pea Island.

Portions of Kitty Hawk and Pea Island were also flooded.

Etheridge served as the keeper at Pea Island for twenty years.

Like Pea Island after the inlet separating it from Hatteras Island closed, the two joined areas have maintained their historical names.
