Oaks Estate takes its name from 'The Oaks', which was part of Duntroon, Robert Campbell's farming estate.
This makes Oaks Estate one of only a few place names in the ACT with significant connections to early colonial times.
With a major business expansion Oaks Estate became the nucleus of Queanbeyan industry.
The street names in Oaks Estate village mark the name of some significant historic figures in its development over the past 150 years.
Oaks Estate has a population of about 330.
The town grew from a squattage held by ex-convict and inn keeper, Timothy Beard, on the banks of the Molonglo River in what is now Oaks Estate.
(Oaks Estate is sometimes mistakenly assumed to be part of Queanbeyan but is in fact located in the Australian Capital Territory.)
One also sits with a new coat of paint, in River Street, Oaks Estate.
The Queanbeyan River joins the Molonglo River at Oaks Estate just within the ACT.
Oaks Estate is 400, the highest levels in the metropolitan area are at Watson and Mitchell at 350, and at Mulligans Flat at 345.
