The amicable rivalry between Hill and Kidd actually started in 1989 when they played at the Nike camp for high school standouts.

As director for the popular Nike all-star camp, Watson had access and had become close to most of the nation's top high school players.

"I've known Chris since we were in high school when we met at the Nike camps," Montross said.

"I worked the Nike camp last summer and Coach Tom Izzo showed up," Jack said.

Following his time at the Nike camp, his household was besieged by recruiters.

All of that seemed to change over the summer, when he competed in a prestigious Nike camp for top high school players in Indianapolis.

"We both have changed a lot since we first started playing each other back in the Nike all-star camps," Day said.

I figured if I go to the Nike camp and get the player of the camp, I'd be the best player in the country, no question.

Luke eventually was invited to attend the Nike all-star camp in Indianapolis for two consecutive summers.

But the Nike camp, which ends Friday, provides challenges that go beyond ballhandling and passing drills.
