The association has turned to Nancy Solomon, director of Long Island Traditions, a group that studies resources and architecture.

"So much of maritime culture is disappearing," said Nancy Solomon, director of Long Island Traditions, a nonprofit group that studies occupational and cultural traditions in the suburbs.

Enter the Arts Council at Freeport, which put its resident folklorist, Nancy Solomon, to work organizing just such an event.

"We've wanted to do this concert for several years," said Nancy Solomon, the group's executive director.
