Ms. Sands figured if he could win there, so could she.
An arson fire in the 1960s, Ms. Sands said, sealed the ranchers' views and put an end to free visits by the public.
"The word eminent domain comes in," Ms. Sands said skeptically.
Ms. Sands, 59, was charged with fraud and grand larceny.
The No on 1 Coalition spent about $600,000, Ms. Sands said.
"He did bedtime five nights a week," Ms. Sand said.
The son also sang in the church choir, along with the rest of the family, Ms. Sands said.
The men had previously run a halfway house for teen-agers, Ms. Sands said.
Ms. Sand, who is 30 years old, is keeping her name.
A longtime friend of the candidate's first wife, Ms. Sands explained her group's support as "not a blind eye, but an educated eye."
