Amtrak's Empire Builder continues to use the eastern portion of this line today, but the train exits the subdivision to the north into Minnesota Commercial Railway trackage to reach Midway station in Saint Paul.

In late 2013, all Amtrak service is expected to move to the Saint Paul Union Depot at which time the Midway station is expected to close.

The Minnesota Commercial Railway has multiple connections to this line, and Amtrak's Midway station is on Minnesota Commercial tracks just to the south of the Midway Yard.

March 1 - Amtrak opens Midway station in Saint Paul, Minnesota and closes the Minneapolis Great Northern Depot.

After running past the Saint Paul Union Depot on the Short Line, there is a crew change and route change at the Midway station.

However, when the Pegasus galaxy has been seen from the Midway station an irregular galaxy is shown.

Amtrak will close their Midway station and move the Empire Builder to the Union Depot.

However, rather than running to Minneapolis, the Builder runs north-south just north of I-94 to reach Midway station.

The trains continued to stop at the depot until the Midway station opened in Saint Paul several miles away on March 1, 1978.
