Australian Antarctic Names and Medals Committee (AANMC)

Chosen by Committee Medallic Arts was chosen to make the medal by the Medals Committee of the American Bicentennial Presdidential Inaugural Committee, said Joseph Levine, an Alexandria, Va., art dealer of Presidential medals who served on the panel.

Rephotographed by Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) in 1956 and renamed by Australian Antarctic Names and Medals Committee (ANCA) for J.E. Breckinridge, meteorologist at Wilkes Station in 1961.

Lastly, the organization has several standing committees including an Executive Committee, Admissions Committee, Finance Committee, Law Committee, Nominating Committee, Publications Committee, and a Speakers and Medals Committee.

In view of his death in an aircraft accident shortly afterward, this proposal was adopted by Australian Antarctic Names and Medals Committee (ANCA) with only a change of generic term.

The Australian Antarctic Names and Medals Committee, abbreviated AANMC, was established to advise the Government on names for features in the Australian Antarctic Territory and the sub-Antarctic territory of Heard Island and the McDonald Islands.

It was renamed by the Australian Antarctic Names and Medals Committee after A. Forbes of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions, who perished on a field trip at Heard Island in 1952.
