Lulu White's Mahogany Hall, 309 Bourbon Street; 525-5595.
Until forcible closure in 1917, White ran a sumptuous brothel known as Mahogany Hall, located at 235 Basin Street.
According to publicity of the time, Mahogany Hall, housed forty women.
Mahogany Hall served as a House for the Unemployed in the mid-1940s but was demolished in 1949.
In addition to Mahogany Hall, White operated a drinking establishment at 1200 Bienville Street.
The field is completed by Mahogany Hall, the 5-year-old who won the Whitney in August, at 15-1.
(He first saw him in the 40's, and later hired him to play at his Boston club, Mahogany Hall, in 1952.)
Mahogany Hall did it the hard way, too.
At the finish, he cruised home with broad daylight back to Pride of Burkaan, a 36-1 long shot, who in turn had one length on Mahogany Hall.
And he turned a lackluster race into a personal triumph, winning by 2 3/4 lengths over Mahogany Hall.
