For indisputable evidence that comedy is fueled by anger, as the adage has it, take a gander at Mario Cantone's face as he approaches a payoff line in "Laugh Whore," the handsomely gussied-up stand-up comedy show that opened at Broadway's Cort Theater last night.

But if "Laugh Whore" does not prove to be the shapeliest of the many solo shows heading to a Broadway theater near you this fall, it is certainly a fine first salvo.

Michael's original Broadway credits include guitarist on a number of productions such as Kinky Boots, Evita, Godspell, Baby It's You, Green Day's American Idiot, Memphis, High Fidelity, Next To Normal (Additional Guitar Arrangements), Grease (revival) and Mario Cantone's "Laugh Whore".

In "Laugh Whore," Mr. Cantone makes fun of his mother's tacky design sense.

But if "Laugh Whore" may not prove to be the shapeliest of the many solo shows, it is certainly a fine first salvo (2:15).

He occasionally does stand-up concerts where, in addition to impressions of Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland, Bruce Springsteen, and others, he sings original comedic songs such as "Laugh Whore" and an ode to being in love with a bat.
