"It was a purely personal decision," Charles Perkins, a spokesman for Knapp Communications, said.
Built in 1972, the 22-story, 400,000-square-foot building is 45 percent occupied, and tenants include New York Life and Knapp Communications.
He began his career at Bon Appetit in San Francisco as managing editor in 1980, when the magazine was owned by Knapp Communications.

Last year, the company acquired Architectural Digest and Bon Appetit from Knapp Communications.
Hachette will acquire Home, a consumer magazine about renovation and interior design, from Knapp Communications.
Even though both magazines have suffered declines in advertising, particularly in the last two years, industry analysts expect Knapp Communications will receive numerous offers.
